During final negotiations over a dinner in Downing Street in June 2021, Boris Johnson seemingly caved in and left British farmers in trouble.

Those negotiations revolved around beef markets effectively allowing thousands more tonnes of Australian beef to enter UK markets.

Since the story broke, Liz Webster, chair of the Save British Food campaign group, told Yahoo News UK: “To hear we were served up in a silver salver is sickening.

“Yesterday I mourned for British farming [upon reading the report]. I mourned for the British countryside. I did cry.

“Today I am f***ing furious.

“The deceit, the arguments that have raged over Brexit for seven years… we have been called Project Fear, scaremongers… and we were right. This proves it. He [Johnson] should never be forgiven.

“It just shows the Australians saw him coming. They got him to make a huge concession and couldn’t believe their luck. It was the moment Britain was completely and utterly sold out. He sold Britain.”

This is damning !

Anyone thinking 🇬🇧 and Johnson didn't sell out to 🇦🇺 should watch these Australian TV presenters laughing out loud about it 👇

Strawberry

So how is it going in the UK, well as you can see a fruit farm, that has been going for 100 years, has given up growing strawberries saying “with Brexit it became more difficult and they (140 pickers mostly from the EU) just did not feel welcome.”

Left: Strawberry picking at Starkey's Fruit Farm; growing for over 100 years.

Right: Starkey's have stopped growing strawberries saying "with Brexit it became more difficult and they (140 pickers mostly from the EU) just did not feel welcome."

Dr Mike Galsworthy tweeted the story and wrote: “More Brexit damage.

“Article also points out seasonal EU workers didn’t want to come because they didn’t feel welcome after Brexit. So many people in this country underestimate how Brexit set an unwelcoming culture & message that drove away hard workers.”

1.

"A family farm that has been producing soft fruits for 75 years has said rising costs have forced it to stop growing berries."

800 tonnes a year taken out of the market. Owner explicitly mentions Brexit as a key issue (can't get the staff any more). https://t.co/v9GHgXrCuW

Nottinghamshire strawberry grower stops production: Traditionally they would use up to 140 pickers, mostly from the EU. "Many of them had come to us for years. But with Brexit it became more difficult and they just did not feel welcome." https://t.co/90P2eC5iCW

3.

We used to be awash with British strawberries before #Brexit.

Now they’re only going to be enjoyed by those of us who can grow them in gardens and allotments.

Who is going to feed the British people as more and more British farms give up farming food?https://t.co/XlOhdcJFOu
