Brexit: New York Times lay bare the failure of leaving EU

It comes as 56% of Britons said they would vote to rejoin the EU, up from 45% in February.

An artilce in the New York Times has called out the failure of Brexit.

They write: “In the years since Britain voted to quit the E.U., many Eastern Europeans have left the country, adding to a shortfall of about 330,000 workers. The food and farming sectors have been hit particularly hard.”

Farmer Sarah Pettitt told the newspaper she was finding it difficult to find people — including Britons — who were willing to work on farms.

“They come with all the best intentions on the Monday, moan and groan about the fact that they had to arrive at 7,” she said. “They’d stay, but you’d not see them the next day. It’s all too hard or too difficult or too uncomfortable.”

Rejoin

It comes as UKICE said polling it conducted in December showed 56% of Britons said they would vote to rejoin the EU, up from 45% in February, largely consistent with other polls.

However, the Conservative Party is committed to Brexit and the Labour Party is keen to avoid suggestions it would seek to unravel the referendum result.

Brexit finished?

Following this line of argument, in a piece by Femi Oluwole in the Independent he claims the Brexit is finally finished.

He writes: “The Brexit debate has finally finished. The Conservative Party – the party in charge of Brexit – have effectively admitted that undoing Brexit would help to fix the UK’s economic crisis. It’s over.

“February marks seven years since the B-word infected every political discussion in the UK.”

However he concludes the piece writing: “They know the debate is over and what they need to do next. The real question is: will they?”
