Brexit: There are already concerns about winter, here’s why

We know nobody wants to think about winter right now...

There are fears for this winter, I know summer hasn’t arrived yet, but Brexit is already potentially ruining this winter.

The new Brexit red tape that are to be slapped on EU imports, could increase food prices, even more than they currently are, and also see empty shelves again, reports The Independent.

Food sector leaders are worried that ports are not prepared for the introduction of a series of checks, including on some animal, plant and food products from mainland Europe.

Additional fees on goods entering Britain from the EU will also add “hundreds of pounds” to the cost of importing on each lorry-load of produce.

Is there light at end of tunnel?

There is a possibility that these issue may be resolved.

It comes as the UK has ditched plans for a Brexit “bonfire” of retained EU law, as promised by Liz Truss, our failed PM.

Now only 2,000 pieces of EU-era legislation will be scrapped rather than the 4,000 that had been planned by Ms Truss.

Truss campaigned to replace Boris Johnson, rather than Rishi Sunak, on the promise of a “red tape bonfire.”

Unleash Brexit

Truss was sure that they would “unleash the full potential of Britain post-Brexit”.

“EU regulations hinder our businesses and this has to change,” she said during her leadership campaign in July last year.

“In Downing Street, I will seize the chance to diverge from outdated EU law and frameworks and capitalise on the opportunities we have ahead of us.”
