Chris Pratt has spoken out in defense of the controversial changes made to the iconic video game character Mario in the upcoming movie “Super Mario Bros.”

Pratt, who is set to voice the character in the film, responded to criticism from fans about Mario’s new look in an interview with Collider.

He acknowledged that the changes were bound to be divisive among fans, but said that the filmmakers made them to reflect a more “realistic” version of Mario in a live-action setting.

Pratt explained that in the film, Mario will have a more “rugged” appearance and will be “a little older and wiser” than in the games, but still retain the character’s core personality traits.

He also noted that the movie will feature many other classic Mario characters, and that the overall aim of the film is to capture the spirit of the beloved video game franchise.
