How has the Daily Mail been lately?

Well, judging by their front pages increasingly unhinged and that is coming from them.

Here is one example (below)

Redundancies

Now they are laying off a lot of staff.

It is thought reporters at the Mail on Sunday are expecting to bear most of the job losses. Editor Ted Verity said the weekend newspaper would retain its “distinct characters, columnists and senior staff” but hinted that more junior roles are at risk.

He told staff: “We need to be nimble, open to new ideas and we need to make sure our newsroom is structured in a way that allows us the greatest possible collaboration across titles and platforms.

“So the next phase of this process will involve bringing the Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday much closer together.

“This kind of collaboration – with everyone working together for the same goal of getting our stories read by as many people worldwide as possible, in whatever form they choose – is the key to the future.

“This is critical because there’s no question that the opportunities for future growth now are digital.”

Brexit

Verity said the increased cost of newsprint is causing difficulties, which has been hit by substantial increases in the cost of the paper that newspapers are printed on.

Circulation is down but is that the only problem?

Could these increased costs be Brexit related one wonders?

“As well as being affected by the cost of paper, other raw materials, energy and freight charges, many publishers routinely use special finishes on books, from gold foil for lettering to coloured edges and patterned endpapers”, the Guardian pondered in Oct 2022, with Brexit being cited as one of the causes

Celebrate?

Anyone losing their jobs isn’t something to celebrate, but there was not a lot of sympathy from Russ Jones, the man who writes ‘the week in Tory.’

He tweeted: “If you’re about to be made redundant from the Daily Mail, don’t worry: I saw in your paper that people on benefits get £50,000 a year, a flat screen TV, and a free iPhone.”

But who are they going to blame…well one person wrote: “Meghan .. all her fault.”
