The BAFTAS took place at the weekend, but the sun was out and Eurovision was on on Saturday, so you might have missed it.

Siobhán McSweeney took home the award for Best Female Performance in a Comedy Programme for her role as Sr. Michael in the amazing comedy Derry Girls, which also won the award for Best Scripted Comedy.

At the beginning of the speech, McSweeney joked: “As my mother laid dying in Cork, one of the very last things she said to me was, would I not consider retraining as a teacher.

“If she could see me now getting a Bafta for playing a teacher. Joke’s on you.”

However, her speech appeared to be chopped by the BBC. Her full speech is hard hitting, the BBC’s is cut in its prime.

More than one Twitter user noticed.

Derry Girls

One account @OhHeyJacob put the two together and, well, you can see for yourself.

He shared the video comparisons and wrote: “What actually happened VS what the BBC aired. Tell me again how the BBC is unbiased? Why have they cut that out?”

The cut out bit said: “I am daily impressed with how ye encompass the spirit of compromise and resilience, despite the indignities, ignorance and stupidity of your so-called leaders in Dublin, Stormont and Westminster.”

He then tweeted: “This should be a scandal of national proportions.”

Then he got a DM from Points Of View…

I’m gonna be totally honest lads, when I just saw I had a DM from the BBC’s Points Of View just now, I wasn’t expecting it to be on #IKissedABoy. 😂 @scottygb pic.twitter.com/4eZxKTfKF4

Well, well, well. It looks like the BBC aired a cut version of a BAFTA winner's speech when she dared to criticise the government. So I'm doing my little bit to spread the word, to ensure more people hear what @siobhni said than would have if they'd just left it alone. RT! https://t.co/BLcJUTPvXf

Straight-up political censorship from the BBC. Seamlessly editing out criticism of those in power. https://t.co/yVS1qpi2Gy
