Does this meme sum up Tory MPs obsession with Gary Lineker?

"Distraction. Distraction. Distraction,"

Gary Lineker is back at the BBC and Tory MPs might now have to address the real issues the UK is dealing (or failing to deal with).

It comes as a meme about the Lineker row might sit with you.

Today, a Downing Street spokesperson declined to say whether the prime minister has confidence in Tim Davie following the Gary Lineker row, stressing that the choice of BBC director general was a matter for the corporation.

They said: “The director general is appointed by the BBC and it’s a matter for them.

“I’m simply pointing to the fact that he’s appointed by the BBC and it’s a matter for them.”

Now it has back fired, it seems the Tories have caused themselves even more problems.

"Tim Davie has questions he must answer".

Former Tory MP Anna Soubry says it 'looks like the BBC did give in to political pressure from the government' but welcomes the inquiry so people are more aware of what the rules are.https://t.co/irAuc0kNPO

Real issue

What is the real issue?

It is almost as if the reason why Gary made that tweet was due to controversial government policy has been forgotten.

Lewis Goodall shared a video about that and wrote: “This week the contents of the most draconian border bill in recent history became the second story. That might have suited some. Because when you drill into the detail, there’s no more guarantee of this bill working than the last.”

John Redwood said this: “Interesting to see Match of the day last night got lots more viewers than the week before. Maybe more people want a shorter football filled programme with less chat.”

Nadine was on about it…

Maybe people just want to watch the footie and not listen to commentators waffling on stating the obvious week after week ‘it’s a game of two halves, Gary.’ 🤔

The @bbc should keep this commentary free model going. It’s a hit.

I can relate to this on so many levels even though I'm not British.

I love the UK so I watch this play out with some sadness and misbelief. Like watching a good friend run their life into the ground. https://t.co/yNIF9secTZ
