The pressure is building and building over the former chancellor Nadhim Zahawi’s tax affairs.

Rishi Sunak ordered an investigation into Mr Zahawi after the Stratford-on-Avon MP admitted agreeing a multimillion-pound settlement with HMRC over unpaid tax.

As you can see polling expert Lord Robert Hayward says at this point Zahawi should leave his position ‘vacant’ until all the facts are right.

In comments to Sky News, one former cabinet minister said: “He’s toast.”

Another questioned whether PM Rishi Sunak should stand firmly by his appointment’s side, saying: “I’m not sure the PM needs to use up much political capital on him.”

Lettuce

An amusing prank by the Daily Star went viral during Truss’ reign (not sure reign is the right word!) at Number 10.

A lettuce famously lasted longer than her.

Now they have done it again with Nadhim Zahawi.

Their front page today reads: “You don’t need a Daily Star lettuce to see how this one ends.”

Well played!
