Good day to…Rishi Sunak FINALLY releases tax return – but is it real deal?

But are there still questions to be answered?

It is a VERY busy day in UK politics, a Brexit vote, Johnson’s partygate inquiry.

So would today be a good day to sneak out your tax return you have been promising for a LONG time.

There was speculation that his tax return could be controversial given that it was scheduled to be released at 4pm while the privileges committee investigation into whether Boris Johnson misled MPs over partygate was very much still in session.

Tax return

His long-awaited personal UK tax returns covering the past four years, showing that he paid £432,493 in tax in the 2021-22 financial year.

BREAKING: Rishi Sunak finally published his personal tax return – and what a day to do it.

His total tax paid:

2019/20: £227,350
2020/21: £393,217
2021/22: £432,493

Pippa Crerar tweeted: “Details here of Rishi Sunak’s tax return

“Last year the PM’s income from dividends was £172k and from capital gains was £1.6m.

“If we didn’t know already, this shows that he is a very wealthy man.”

Is it a full return though?

Rishi Sunak has published a statement of how much tax he paid last year but I'm not sure it's a "tax return" per se

Reactions

1.

As all eyes are on Johnson, Rishi Sunak has just slipped out his tax returns, which he initially promised last year. They only cover three years and contain very little detail https://t.co/9buLs6irG2

2.

Sunak's "tax return" is out. Scare quotes because it's not a tax return. Compare vs what Nicola Sturgeon published earlier in the year.

Nothing suspicious/weird here that I can see. Limited info in the summary; but even the full tax return wouldn't have revealed much more. pic.twitter.com/042Smi3PXQ

3.

Labour source: "So while Sunak was jacking up everyone else’s tax, he was paying a marginal tax rate of about 22% on millions of pounds of income." https://t.co/HPej8neFLF

Recently it was revealed that his wife, Akshata Murthy, had claimed non-dom status – allowing her to avoid UK tax on her vast foreign income, derived from her father’s Idian firm, Infosys.

Florence Eshalomi: Infosys was still operating in Russia, 8 months after they said they would withdraw.. they got a contract worth £1.8m of taxpayers money… should public money go to those operating in Russia?

Jeremy Quin: I don't know the particulars of that circumstance.. pic.twitter.com/CTYfx4IIR5
