Has the BBC finally apologised to Jeremy Corbyn?

Is it sorry not sorry?

It seems the BBC has apologised to former Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn over antisemitism claims made on its Newsnight show, but it has left a lot of people to question how sincere the apology actually is.

It comes as Jeremy Corbyn will not stand as a Labour MP at the next general election, Keir Starmer confirmed at national executive committee (NEC) meeting after he vowed to prove the party had changed under his leadership.

Statement from Jewish Members of Islington North CLP.

These are people who *actually know* and have *worked with* Jeremy Corbyn, so – screw the scammers.https://t.co/zruuCU3urp pic.twitter.com/G0VNEib6bU

The motion Starmer proposed at the NEC does not explicitly mention antisemitism. Instead, it says Labour’s electoral prospects in the seats it needs to win at the next election would be “significantly diminished” should Corbyn be a Labour candidate.

Is this why?

This is why Starmer couldn't use 'Corbyn hasn't apologised' on his NEC motion disbarring him from standing, because Corbyn has apologised and BBC have confirmed that.
Apologised for what exactly remains unclear (#ItWasAScam), but that an apology was made is not disputable. https://t.co/alEigLLvQh

‘The BBC issue a statement on their ‘corrections and clarifications’ page making it clear that when Newsnight claimed Jeremy Corbyn had never apologised for antisemitism, that was a lie.’

Here is the clarification.

Oof.

What a whopper of a correction from the BBC regarding their lies about Jeremy Corbyn. pic.twitter.com/HHLh1LJ93r

Do you agree with this tweet in response though?

“It’s a sorry not sorry. The damage was done way back & they continued sticking the boot in & allowing others to do the same by allowing willfull misinformation & flat out lies to go completely unchallenged, even after it was done.”

It's a sorry not sorry.

Other reactions

1.

Their apology implies that he said the EHRC dramatically overstated the scale of the problem. He didn't. He said his opponents did.
They must know how misleading that sentence is. #Newsnight

2.

"He said he didn't accept all the EHRC findings"? Another whopper!

They can't even get their apologies right!

4.

Dear @BBCNewsnight

While I thank you for your attempt at a correction. You state, below, that "Labour suspended Mr Corbyn after he said he did not accept all the EHC findings.." This is incorrect.

5.

@BBCNewsnight you are a disgrace. Who reads clarifications? Also, the clarification is still not correct. The apology should be on prime time news
