At today’s PMQs did the speaker show some backbone? He has been heavily criticised for not controlling all sides of the house, but especially rowdy Tories.

Firstly to the session, it began with Sir Keir Starmer accusing Rishi Sunak of losing control of immigration before new figures released.

Starmer said: “He says Sunak stood on three manifestos promising lower migration. Why does the home secretary have such a problem with points-based systems?”

The Labour leader went on and said Suella Braverman wants Britons to become fruit pickers.

“Does the PM support this? Or does he want Braverman to have her own career change?” He asked.

It comes after there have been calls for Suella Braverman to quit over a driving points scandal.

Following the theme Starmer said Sunak needs, ‘not a speed awareness course, but a reality check. Labour is the party of working people’, Starmer claimed.

Stephen Flynn, the SNP leader at Westminster, asked the PM about price rises. “Is this a cost of greed crisis?”

The PM accepted food inflation is too high, but said the government is providing significant support with the cost of living.

Speaker shows backbone

But it was a very angry Speaker Lindsay Hoyle who kicked a Tory MP out of the House of Commons telling him: “I’m not having it.”

Hoyle, angered by yelling from the government benches, told Peterborough MP Paul Bristow to leave the chamber just four minutes into the session.

The Speaker had already had to pause proceedings twice before he made this move.

“Order, order. Mr Bristow, I think you’re going to be leaving. I’m asking you to leave now, because otherwise I’ll name you.

“I’m not having it, and I’ve warned you before. It’s the same people,” he said.
