Prince William gets a royal booing in Belfast

Prince William faced a frosty reception during his visit to Ulster University in Belfast on Thursday. As he left the campus, a small group of protesters shouted “Free Palestine” and other critical remarks.

Protesters Gather Outside the University

The Prince of Wales had been touring the university’s state-of-the-art Virtual Production Studio when a small pro-Palestinian rally formed outside. Protesters accused the royal of “hiding” from them, chanting “shame” as he arrived and departed.

Kurtis Reid of the Belfast Telegraph shared a video on X, noting the “less than warm reaction” to William’s exit.

Prince William’s Belfast Itinerary

Despite the protests, Prince William continued his engagements. He visited the Ulster Screen Academy and the Simon Community, a charity supporting homeless people.

The prince’s Belfast visit comes amidst ongoing tensions in the Middle East. In February, Prince William expressed concern over the conflict in Gaza, calling for an end to the violence.

Royal Statement on Gaza

In his statement, Prince William said he was “deeply concerned about the terrible human cost of the conflict in the Middle East.” He emphasised the need for increased humanitarian aid in Gaza and the release of hostages, noting that “too many have been killed.”

The incident at Ulster University highlights the continued public debate surrounding the conflict.
