A study has found that UK towns with the most immigrants and highest levels of diversity tend to do far better economically than areas with fewer, reports The Independent.

The research indicates a strong link “between rising prosperity and rising diversity” – with diverse areas doing better “almost regardless of which metric you use”.

The study, commissioned by anti-racism charity Hope Not Hate is a challenge to negative perceptions of immigration.

Their report concludes that “growing diversity is an inevitable part of increasing prosperity – and, potentially, a contributor to it”.

The treatment of refugees has also come under the spotlight, as a group have protested against a plan to move them from London to Bedfordshire.

More than 130 asylum seekers were living in Greenwich hotel and were given just a few hours’ notice.

Campaigner Peter Tatchell wrote: “These people are refugees but they are being manhandled like criminals & transported around the country like cattle Banishing them to internal exile has echoes of an evil past! Refugees are being forcibly removed with just a few hours notice! SHAME!”

The Home Office’s treatment of refugees is outrageous. @Royal_Greenwich as a Borough of sanctuary stands against this. When people flee from persecution to the UK for safety, you support them and help them settle. 1/3https://t.co/mRPLzgjNB5

Inhumanity has another name, it's called the Tory Party!
Treating refugees fleeing war, asylum-seekers in wheelchairs & others who are traumatised as sub-human, this Tory Gov't plays to its right-wing gallery rather than act humanely & with compassion!🧐⬇️https://t.co/hHfvZFxx9P
