The speaker of the House Sir Lindsay Hoyle was furious at a Tory Minister in the Commons today. People are asking where the speaker’s fury has been

Kemi Badenoch was slammed for being rude to the speaker.

Hoyle was already angry that the announcement to change EU retained law policy was not shared with MPs first, but was announced to the press first instead.

It was announced that rather than getting rid of thousands of pieces of EU legislation, which have now been found to total 4,829, the Government will only revoke 600 laws by the end of the year, created fury among Brexiters.

Mogg anger

It comes as Jacob Rees-Mogg blasted Rishi Sunak for scaling back a promised ‘bonfire’ of EU laws.

Mogg claimed the Sunak was ‘behaving like a Borgia’, a powerful wealthy Italian family in the 15th and early 16th centuries, known for their cruel determination to gain political power.

Jacob, who championed the scrapping of leftover Brussels rules is leading a Brexiteer backlash against Mr Sunak for breaching the key pledge.

Speaker’s fury

Back to Kemi Badenoch, the business and trade secretary, who was responding to an urgent question.

Kemi referred to the speaker’s rebuke about not issuing a statement yesterday.

Her apology was far from meeting his satisfaction.

An infuriated Hoyle told Badenoch: “Who do you think you are speaking to, secretary of state?”

He then slams her for “absolutely not accepting my ruling”, and he says she should accept what he said with good grace.

It’s taken all this time for this government to be challenged for repeatedly riding roughshod over parliamentary procedure and displaying utter contempt for the rules.

Good to see that the Speaker has finally found the courage to speak up for parliament…sad he didn't do it when there was a full house and a wider audience!
