Brexiter Claire Fox has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after a fiery rant about the EU sparked backlash online.
🚶 Youth Mobility Scheme in the Works
The row comes as the UK edges closer to agreeing a post-Brexit youth mobility scheme with the European Union. This move aims to reset parts of Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal by allowing under-30s to live and work freely between the UK and EU for a limited period.
Britain already has similar agreements with Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Iceland, Uruguay, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. However, the UK government has been dragging its feet on striking a similar deal with the EU.
James MacCleary, the Liberal Democrat Europe spokesperson, said Labour should “stop flip-flopping” and get on with it.
He said: “Securing a youth mobility scheme with the EU would be a common-sense win-win – creating new opportunities for our young people and delivering a much-needed boost to our economy.”
😡 Claire Fox’s ‘Hypocrisy’ Exposed
Fox’s rant, shared by the popular Twitter account The Implausible Blog, has been widely mocked.
They wrote: “Brexiter Claire Fox, who sits unelected in the House of Lords after campaigning to leave the EU, complaining about unelected bureaucrats. Has a meltdown at the idea of the UK having closer alignment with the EU. At the end, she even suggests that Iranian terrorists came to the UK on small boats from Europe.”
It’s not the first time Fox has been accused of hypocrisy for railing against unelected officials while sitting in the House of Lords – an institution made up entirely of unelected members.
💥 Social Media Reaction
Social media users were quick to pounce on the irony. One user commented: “Imagine campaigning to leave the EU because of unelected bureaucrats, then becoming one yourself.”
Another added: “Fox is the very definition of the pot calling the kettle black.”
