Anderson’s Criticism of Reeves and the Inheritance Tax

During today’s Prime Minister’s Questions, Reform UK MP Lee Anderson criticised the government’s decision to impose inheritance tax on farms worth more than £1 million. This move has sparked anger among farmers, with many protesting in Whitehall.

Anderson referred to comments made by the Minister for Rural Affairs, who had claimed that a farmer congratulated him for introducing the inheritance tax. Anderson sarcastically suggested that the farmer must have been a “cannabis farmer” due to the controversial nature of the decision. He then asked Deputy Prime Minister Rayner if she agreed that the policy should be “thrown in the trash can along with Rachel from accounts’ CV.”

Rayner’s Cutting Response

Rayner was quick to respond, mocking Anderson’s frequent political party changes. “He talks about CVs,” Rayner began. “It’s good to see the honourable member doing well on his bench. Once a Labour councillor, then a Tory MP, and now a Reform chief whip. Every time he switches party, he gets a promotion.”

Rayner also reaffirmed Labour’s stance on supporting farmers and investing in public services. “We’ll continue to support our farmers and we’ll continue to invest in our public services to get Britain back on track,” she said.

Anderson’s Political Journey

Anderson’s political history is indeed a story of change. He was previously a deputy chairman of the Conservative Party before defecting to Reform UK in March. Despite his shift in allegiances, Anderson has found himself in prominent positions, leading some to question his commitment to any one party.
