Campaign group Led By Donkeys has taken its message to the heart of Westminster with a giant banner in Parliament Square protesting the ongoing war in Gaza.

The 40x40m banner, impossible to miss, bore the stark words: “Yes it’s a genocide.” The group later shared an image of the protest on social media, accompanied by a statement from Israeli historian Professor Amos Goldberg.

“Yes, It’s a Genocide”: Prof Goldberg’s Message

In the statement, Prof Goldberg made a powerful argument: “Yes, it’s a genocide. And once you come to this conclusion, you cannot remain silent.”

He clarified that genocide doesn’t have to look like the Holocaust to meet the definition. “Each genocide looks different, and not all involve the killing of millions or the entire group,” he said.

Quoting the United Nations Genocide Convention, Goldberg noted that genocide involves the deliberate destruction of a group “in whole or in part.” The historian added, “There does need to be a clear intent,” and pointed to what he described as “clear indication of intent to destroy Gaza” from the Israeli government, military, and media.

Making a Bold Statement

Led By Donkeys is no stranger to eye-catching protests, and this banner is yet another example of their commitment to highlighting global injustices. By referencing Prof Goldberg’s statement, the group has placed a sharp focus on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and invited intense debate on the international response—or lack thereof.

Whether you agree with their message or not, one thing’s for sure: Led By Donkeys knows how to make people stop and take notice.
