Coventry City have announced the departure of their long-serving manager, Mark Robins. This decision follows a difficult run of form that currently places the Sky Blues 17th in the Championship table.

Robins’ Journey from League Two to Championship Playoffs

Robins, 54, took over Coventry City in 2017 when the club was in League Two. Under his leadership, the Sky Blues achieved two promotions, reaching the Championship play-off final in the 2022/23 season. He also guided Coventry to the FA Cup semi-finals last year, where they narrowly lost to Manchester United after a controversial disallowed goal.

A Disappointing Season Leads to Change

Despite his past successes, Coventry have struggled this season, leading to Robins’ dismissal after a 2-1 defeat to Derby County on Wednesday. In a statement released on Thursday, the club explained the “difficult decision” to end Robins’ contract.

Club’s Tribute to Robins’ Impact

The statement praised Robins for revitalising the club, saying: “Since 2017, Mark has overseen Coventry City’s journey from League Two to a whisker away from the Premier League and a second FA Cup final.” The club credited him with bringing back pride, a strong playing style, and a renewed sense of connection to Coventry’s community.

Looking Forward: Interim Head Coach to Be Appointed

Coventry City expressed gratitude for Robins’ achievements and acknowledged the impact he had on the club’s resurgence. However, they noted that recent performances had not met expectations, prompting the board to seek new leadership.

The club plans to appoint an interim head coach while searching for a long-term successor to work within their updated structure.
